Fiera di Primiero
The elegant heart of the valley
Located at an altitude of 700 metres, the elegant and welcoming village of Fiera di Primiero is where history, nature and culture coexist in perfect harmony. It is the perfect place from which to explore the area at a relaxed pace, experiencing the authentic rhythms of those who live here all year round.
Framed by the majestic peaks of the Pale di San Martino, the village offers picturesque views amongst historic buildings, well-kept alleyways and small squares that reveal its alpine soul. The atmosphere here is intimate and authentic: shops, cafés and cultural events bring the centre to life without ever disturbing the peace that makes every day special.
History and Tradition
Fiera di Primiero originated in the 15th century when miners working in the valley’s mines decided to settle permanently in the area. The village’s name itself evokes its original purpose: it was here that fairs dedicated to mined metals and markets involving the entire surrounding area were held. Despite its small size, the village quickly became the administrative and commercial hub of the valley, the seat of the mining magistrates, and a key centre for trade.
The village centre is built around the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta and the iconic Palazzo delle Miniere, which dominates the Pieve hill. The frescoed façades, towers and finely crafted portals bear witness to the influence of wealthy families, and still exude aristocratic elegance today.
Alongside the traditions of mining and trade, the town remembers illustrious figures such as Luigi Negrelli, who played a key role in major European infrastructure projects, including the famous Suez Canal. Today, Fiera di Primiero continues to play a central role thanks to its services, craft activities and accommodation facilities, all set within a distinctive Alpine landscape.
